    Contact Lens Examination and Assessment
In Order to fit the patient with contact lenses we go through a comprehensive series of tests to determine the suitability of the patient for contact lens wear and what particular type of lenses are most suited.

    1. Discussion of Patients Requirements
The Optometrist and the Patient will discuss together the reason for contact lenses; what they are to be used for and the length of time they need to be used. This information along with the measurement taken during the examination will determine which type of contact lenses are most suitable.
    2. Health Assessment
Full examination of the structures at the front of the eye using a Slit Lamp. The Slit Lamp enables us to look at the eye under high magnification (up to 40x)
    3. Digital Imaging
Our New Digital Camera from Topcon enables us to take and store digital photographs of the front of the eye. We store these images with your records so that at each visit we can do a direct comparison of the images to enable closer monitoring of your eyes. As the Camera is directly linked to the Slit Lamp we can take the images up to the maximum magnification of the Slit Lamp.
    4. Corneal Measurements
The curvature of the Cornea is measured using a Keratometer , other measurement will include the horizontal and vertical size of the eye. These measurements are then used to determine the size and shape of the contact lenses.
    5. Insertion of Lenses and Trial Period
The power of the contact lenses are determined from the results of the sight test. The Optometrist will then insert the contact lenses in the patients eyes. The patient is then given the chance to see without spectacles during the usual 30 minute trial.
    6. Assessment of Fit & Vision
After the trial period the fit of the contact lenses and the visual acuity is checked. If any alterations to the strength or fit are needed it occurs at this stage.
    7. Teaching Insertion & Removal
If the lenses are correct the patient will be shown how to insert and remove the contact lenses . The Optometrist needs to be sure that the patient is capable of doing this safely.
    8. Contact Lens Care
The patient is shown how to look after their contact lenses and told the importance of regular After Care check ups.
